When did you start?
I started working at Fifty more than two years ago on the 1st of May 2021.
What is your role at Fifty?
I am a Senior Software Engineer. I mostly work on Fifty’s unique audience insights platform, dealing with the user interface and handling the platform data that comes from the Insights team. Basically, I work a lot on the visualisation part of the platform data.
What did you do before joining Fifty?
Before joining Fifty, I was working as a Software Engineer in a logistics startup.
What particular skills have you developed throughout your role?
There have been many. Throughout my time at Fifty, I have been exposed to working with much bigger datasets than what I was used to before. I’ve also gained more knowledge about the world of Artificial Intelligence, which has been really interesting. Besides this, I’ve got better at building more complex user interfaces.
What has your biggest success been at Fifty??
One of my biggest successes while working at Fifty was restructuring the code architecture for Fifty’s platform. At Fifty, we want to have a very scalable platform ensuring that every component we add to the platform can be easily added, scaled or removed. When I first joined, I came up with the idea of restructuring the platform and enforcing better code architecture. I led that effort and now, the platform has more reusability and scalability, which is something I’m very proud of.
What is a notable project you’ve worked on?
I had the opportunity to work on the Fifty Reporting Dashboard, which is our latest platform update, where clients can interact and easily understand our insights. Before, our clients had to use Google Studio dashboards to access the visualisation of our data but now we’ve created our own dashboard and integrated into the Fifty platform. It’s important for our clients to use our platform in more ways - Fifty should be a familiar environment and the go-to window into the platform, and the Fifty Reporting Dashboard helps us do that.
Do you have any advice for someone looking to go into a similar role?
Learn to code, of course! That is definitely the first step. But besides this, I’d say that it’s also really important to always be curious about learning new things. Make sure to keep asking questions and do not limit yourself to the tasks that you’ve been asked to do. Try to gain new opportunities and explore new projects – it’s a really great way to increase your knowledge and to push yourself out of your comfort zone
What are your passions outside of work?
Just like at work, I’m always trying to learn new information and skills. I also love playing the guitar, playing football, and cooking (and eating) tasty food!
What’s next? Is there anything you’re looking forward to in particular?
I’m looking forward to increasing my health and happiness both personally and at work. It’s important to continue to work towards one’s wellbeing, enjoying each day and the many new things I can learn!
